Buckley Air Force Base

While you can’t get on Buckley Air Force Base without a military ID, you can still take in the sights and very loud sounds of one of the fastest growing bases in the country. The 460th Space Wing, the base host, is the keeper of what appear to be “golf balls” dotting the Aurora horizon. These “golf balls” play an intricate part in providing space-based warning and awareness that protect the homeland and global military personnel. Buckley is also home to the 140th Wing of the Colorado Air National Guard. They provide bird watching Aurora-style! Turn your eyes and ears to the skies and look for the F-16 fighting falcons as they fly overhead. There are areas around the outside of the base where you can park your car and wait for takeoff.
