Richard Pfluger | Q2 Far From Ordinary Award Winner 2019

July 10, 2019

Visit Aurora is proud to announce Richard Pfluger, Engineer IV at Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center, as the winner of the quarterly Visit Aurora Far From Ordinary Award of Excellence.

Pfluger was nominated by his manager, Jeremy Farnan, who shared Pfluger’s decades of experience, willingness to teach his trade, and extra efforts made him an obvious choice for the award.

“His willingness to flex and work early shifts to ensure all kitchen equipment work is completed is one of a kind,” said Farnan. “His pride lives on his shoulders, no matter what job he is tasked with he always is able to elevate it to the next level.”

Pfluger has twenty-three years of kitchen equipment experience and has been known to go above and beyond to make tasks easier for everyone. When banquet staff mentioned inefficacies in their catering ovens, Pfluger made it his mission to come in early to re-plumb the water and drain lines. According to Farnan, his self-initiated efforts significantly increased the team’s efficiency while making it easier for guests to be served.

Described as a true team player, Pfluger is beloved by his co-workers and often makes a conscious choice to get the job done. “From day one, Richard was 100% in,” says Farnan, “he lives that attitude out every single day, and without him, the equipment and team wouldn’t be where we are today.”

“What I love about my job is I know anyone in the hotel wearing cobalt blue will give me a hand whenever I need it,” which is the official color for Gaylord Engineers says Pfluger. He continues, “Every day is a challenge and a new adventure with all the different restaurant chefs,  cooks, and dishwashers.”
