Wherever you’re at in Aurora, you’re never too far from wildlife. Take a hike at the Pronghorn Natural Area at sunset to look for pronghorn deer and red fox darting in-between the tall grass. Spend an afternoon at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal Nation Wildlife Refuge to see American bison roaming the plains right from your car. Discover animals from around the world at the Denver Zoo including lions, cheetahs, cape buffalo, leopards, zebras, gorillas and plenty of critters to see.
CATCH A GAME
Score a goal with the Colorado Rapids this summer. With more than a dozen home games this season, you’ll have plenty of chances to see the men’s professional soccer team. Located in Commerce City, Colorado, cheer from the stands of the tallest stadium in the entire professional Men’s Soccer League. Single-game tickets range from $15 to $80+.
A DAY ON THE BEACH
Colorado might be a landlocked state, but you can still enjoy the white sand beaches off the coast at the Aurora Reservoir. Bring the kids (and plenty of sunscreen) and head out early to this hidden gem. Splash around in the clear blue water, rent one of their standup paddleboards for a little adventure, or bring your bikes to cruise around the 8-mile bike trail. Feel free to pack a picnic and enjoy the covered tables and free-use grills.
JUMP ON THE SADDLE
Experience Aurora’s natural landscape like a true local – on horseback! 12 Miles Stables resides on more than 3,300 acres of the seemingly untouched prairie landscape. Gather the family for a guided horseback tour across the 27 miles of riding trails. While this activity is ideal for older children, 12 Miles Stables has Pony Rides for younger kids.
RACE DOWN A WATERSLIDE
Splash around at Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center. Speed down their water slide that traces you outside the resort, visit the indoor and outdoor pools, or relax at the outdoor lazy river. It should be noted, to use the water park, families must be staying at the resort, however, as a guest entry to the resort is free. Families can also sign up for the Gaylord Rockies’ Summerfest events. These ticketed events range from escape rooms, splash parties, and even drive-in movies. Families can participate in the Summer in the City events, hosted by the City of Aurora. Visit different parks throughout the summer, including Del Mark Park which features outdoor waterslides. After a morning of shopping at Southlands Lifestyle Center, discover their umbrella splash park!
RIDE A ROLLER COASTER
Hold on tight! With more than a dozen rides, seasonal water park, and live concerts, you’ll want to grab your tickets to Elitch Gardens. This full-scale theme park has rides perfect for families with young children and kids wanting something a little more adventurous (like the Brain Drain Roller Coaster!). This park packs a punch and offers a variety of special events, live music, drive-in movies, fireworks, arcade games and more to keep everyone occupied throughout the summer months.
