‘Tis the season!
December 07, 2018
Whether you’re visiting Aurora over the holidays or looking for something the whole family can enjoy this winter, we’ve got a few ideas. From ice skating to hot cocoa, it’s time for some family fun.
Discover the magic of thousands of holiday lights this season at the newly opened Gaylord Rockies Resort and Convention Center. At this free event, visitors are welcome to walk through indoor and outdoor paths filled with color-changing trees, musical wind chimes, giant ornaments, and even dancing snowflakes. This kid-friendly show of lights is accompanied by Gaylord Rockies’ expansive Grand Lodge, where anyone is welcome to enjoy dinner at one of their eight resort restaurants. Or discover some of the city’s best hot chocolate locations to round out the day.
Enjoy the winter weather this year by lacing up your ice skates. The Pond, located in Southlands, is Aurora’s go-to spot for family-friendly ice skating. Open every day of the week, The Pond is the perfect place for spending an afternoon with the crew. Skate rentals are $2.50. You’re also welcome to bring your own skates. There is also a small admission fee into the rink but don’t worry your admission is good all day. After, warm up at one of Southlands’ classic and local restaurants.
Get creative in the kitchen with your kids in hand at Create Cooking School. Located inside Stanley Marketplace, they offer “Cooking with your Kids” classes for kids ages 6-10 years of age (depending on class) throughout the month of December. Create tasty pasta, cook the perfect breakfast, or make a festive yule log. Create Cooking School has special “Junior Chef” classes for kids ages 10-13 through the month. Cook from scratch, bond together and enjoy a handmade meal! More about hours, classes, and tickets here.
Too chilly outside? Make your way over to Spider Monkey Extreme Air Sports to soar, jump, and leap through obstacle courses and more. Practice your rock climbing skills, become a ninja warrior, and fly past your friends while dunking basketballs on kid-friendly hoops. This indoor trampoline park caters to kids of all ages and also hosts large-scale parties. Learn more about their facilities and find which hours work best for you on their website.
