AURORA TO DEDICATE NEW KOREAN WAR VETERANS MEMORIAL ON JULY 27

AURORA, Colo. — On Monday, July 27, 2026 at 9:30 am, the City of Aurora and the Aurora Korean War Veterans organization will officially dedicate the Korean War Veterans Memorial at General's Park (1561 Quentin St., Aurora, CO), commemorating the 73rd anniversary of the Korean War Armistice.

The memorial stands as a lasting tribute to the courage and sacrifice of the men and women who served during the Korean War while celebrating the unprecedented alliance of 22 nations that came together to defend the Republic of Korea. More than a monument, the memorial is designed as an educational and reflective space where visitors can learn the stories behind a conflict often called "The Forgotten War."

"The very reason South Korea is where it is today is because the Korean War veterans from 22 nations came to a small country in the Far East and saved us," said Peter Seung-Woo Lee, Board Chair of Aurora Korean War Veterans. "We are forever grateful, and we want to make sure that gratitude continues for future generations."

Years in the making, the memorial features country monuments honoring each participating nation, educational storyboards that share the history and personal stories of the war, and thoughtfully designed Korean garden elements that invite visitors to pause, reflect, and remember.

For Suegie Park, one of the memorial's leading organizers and a survivor of the Korean War, the memorial represents both remembrance and gratitude.

"Freedom is never free because 22 countries contributed their lives and sacrificed to save South Korea," Park said. "That's why we have to remember."

Located adjacent to the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus and the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center, the memorial serves as both a place of honor for veterans and a destination for future generations to better understand the lasting impact of the Korean War.

"This memorial honors countries," said Becky Hogan, co-chair of the Korean War Veterans Memorial project. "Hopefully this memorial reminds people that when nations come together to fight for freedom, it makes all the difference."

The dedication ceremony will bring together veterans, military families, community leaders, elected officials, members of Aurora's Korean community, and residents from across Colorado to celebrate the completion of one of the nation's most distinctive Korean War memorials.

As Colorado's most diverse city, Aurora provides a fitting home for a memorial that celebrates international cooperation, shared sacrifice, and the enduring bonds forged during one of history's defining conflicts. Following the dedication, the memorial will be open to the public year-round and is expected to become both a place of remembrance and an educational destination for visitors from across the country.
