Overview
Stanley Aviation now houses Stanley Marketplace, an innovative commercial venture that pays homage to the history of this industrial site and founder, Robert Stanley. A groundbreaking test pilot and engineer, Bob Stanley, established the Stanley Aviation manufacturing plant in northwest Aurora in 1954, which eventually became the city’s largest employer. The Stanley Aviation plant produced a number of ejection seats and other jet aircraft components, primarily used by the U.S. Air Force. The Stanley Marketplace is significant for its founder, for its contribution to military history, and for its architecture as an industrial example of the International style.
