Aly & The Genie

After a COVID-19 hiatus of 2 years, ROSHNI, an Aurora-based performing Arts organization in collaboration with the Vintage Theatre is thrilled to present the world premiere of Aly & The Genie.

This original 80-minutes comedic play is a contemporary tale of diverse communities along the E. Colfax ave. Displaced and disadvantaged maybe, yet hopeful, joyful, and colorful.

The plot centers on Aly, a street-smart young woman who is rescued and adopted by Jamie, a disabled veteran. After foiling the kidnap of Erik, heir to a multi-million dollar tech company, Aly is recruited to procure an ancient lamp that results in a fast-paced adventure, with a whimsical Genie for a sidekick.

A magical tale, where ambitions collide with empathy, this entertaining drama, will have you questioning, what price would you pay for 3 wishes? And the power we each hold within ourselves.

Deepali Lindblom has co-written the play with Nigel Knutzen and debuts as a director. With a dazzling mix of Hip-Hop, Bollywood, and Middle-eastern dances, this play has a unique set, a huge mural painting of the E. Colfax Ave, and a multi-ethnic cast.

ROSHNI's mandate is to work with those at the margins. Tell them stories, but more importantly help them tell their own stories. Our vision is to promote Inclusion and Empathy. To use the power of storytelling to Heal, Uplift, and Inspire.

Aly & The Genie is our second original play that reflects present-day Colorado and our place in the world as Coloradans.
