“Aurora, Colorado Variations” – A Symphonic Celebration of Home

Our season closes with a concert of music celebrating and honoring our homes.

This concert features two pieces written for the Aurora Symphony, including a musical depiction of our city and a touching musical memorial in response to the July 20th theater shooting.

Aaron Copland’s music from Rodeo and Appalachian Spring helped create the “American Sound” you hear in cowboy movies and commercials.

Like Copland’s music, Marquez’s Danzon No. 2. helped define the sounds of Mexican classical music, and Sibelius’s Finlandia celebrated the composer’s pride in his homeland of Finland.

The Cascadian Concerto by Eric Ewazen celebrates the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest and features the Aurora Symphony’s own Aurora Borealis woodwind quintet as soloists.

Saturday, May 17: 7:30 - 9:30 pm

Sunday, May 18: 4 - 6:00 pm
