Everyday Democracy: Stories That Build Us - Documentary Screening and Group Discussion

Rocky Mountain Public Media invites the Aurora community to a special screening of A Mother Apart as part of the Everyday Democracy: Stories That Build Us series.

This intimate and deeply human documentary follows Jamaican-American poet Staceyann Chin as she searches for the mother who left her behind and reimagines what motherhood and chosen family can mean. Spanning Brooklyn, Montreal, Cologne, and Jamaica, the film weaves together memory, longing, forgiveness, and fierce love.

Following the screening, attendees will participate in guided small-group conversations designed to encourage reflection, listening, and meaningful connection across differences.

This free event is open to the public and takes place at the Martin Luther King Jr. Library in Aurora. Join us for an afternoon of film, food, conversation, and community.
