The Inside-Out Mask Making Camp

Creative Remedies is so excited to be kicking the summer off with a Mask-Making Camp!

Description: This four-week creative journey will invite your kids to explore emotions, identity, and self-expression through hands-on mask-making. We will incorporate a wide range of media during construction to help your kids create a one of a kind piece. And best of all, the camp will end with a gallery reception that will display everyone’s finished pieces for friends and family to see!

When: Fridays in June, 10am-11:30am

June 5th, 12th, 19th, & 26th

Who Can Join: This class will be for kids between the ages of 10-13

Cost: 120$(30$/Class)

Program Theme:

Inside & Outside: Exploring Feelings, Identity, and Creativity Through Masks

Goals (overall):

Support expression in a safe, creative way

Develop an understanding of mixed-media, basic structures, and creative design

Learn how to plan and execute a concept

Develop patience and problem-solving through art-making

Week 1 – Introduction & Base Mask Creation

Theme: What is a mask?

Focus - FORMING A MASK

Check in: “What is a mask?”, “Why do people wear masks?”

Establish group trust & do team building

Art demo & safety talk

Learn how to form a base for our masks!

Week 2 – Building & Emotional Layers

Theme: Feelings have layers

Focus - FORMING AN EXPRESSION

Check in: “If your mask had a feeling, what might it be?”

Explore how feelings can be mixed or layered

Learn more about the many functionalities of paper mache

Form facial structure, expressions, characteristics & traits on to mask base

Week 3 – Painting & Identity

Theme: Colors, symbols, and stories

Focus - MASK PAINTING

Check in: “If you were a color, what color would you be?”

Identity exploration - personal symbolism in each mask

Introduce acrylic paints and mixed media materials like beads, feathers, string, fabric etc.

Week 4 – Finishing Touches & Reflection

Theme: Finalizing & Showcasing

Focus - FINAL DECORATION AND PRESENTATION

Check in: “One word about how you’re feeling finishing your mask”

Add finishing touches & details

Mask sharing & group discussion

Practicing respectful witnessing of others

Hang pieces in the gallery

FINAL DAY RECEPTION:

At the end of the program the group will be invited back to enjoy their work exhibited in Creative Remedies’ home gallery! Families and friends are invited to admire the product of the past 4 weeks, eat snacks, listen to music, and enjoy art and the community!

Gallery preparation will be from 10-11AM

Reception will be 11AM-12PM
